My Horror Marathon Powered by G Fuel

I’m super selective with the things I will promote to my readers on Knockout Horror. Countless VPN services, poster companies, and merch stores contact looking for spots on the site and I almost universally refuse.

“I jumped on the chance to check out G Fuel but with two caveats… It has to be horror related and if it’s not a good product, I won’t talk about it.”

G Fuel is a little different, for me. The reason? Well, for one, my fiancee and I are both gamers and, for two, I am a huge sucker for their horror movie tie ins.

When a representative for G Fuel contacted offering a chance for me to try the product and see whether it would be something my readers would be interested in, I jumped on the chance but with two caveats… It has to be horror related and if it’s not a good product, I won’t talk about it.

An image featuring the G Fuel Jump Scare collector's box with Ghost Face themed stainless steel sipper cup and sticker as well as a tub of Jump Scare G Fuel and a tub of Stab Stimulant G Fuel.

Well, about a week ago, a package showed up at my door from G Fuel and this is what it contained. What we have here is a tub of Stab Stimulant Cherry Green Apple and the Jump Scare Collector’s Box which comes with a Ghost Face (of Scream fame) Sticker, Custom 18oz Sipper Cup, and a 40 Serving Jump Scare Energy Tub (Formula 2.0).

I believe this is a limited edition tie in with Scream 7 which is pretty awesome. Shame the movie wasn’t very good. So, now, in true Knockout Horror style, it’s time to be brutally honest about my experience with G Fuel and my experience pulling an all nighter to fix my severely messed up body clock.

Another Night in the Horror Trenches

Full disclosure, I have something known as Non-24-hour sleep–wake disorder. Nope, not your ordinary pitch for a product but what that means is that I don’t have a typical 24 hour circadian rhythm. In my case, I have an approximately 25 hour circadian rhythm. If left to my own devices, sans alarm-clock, I will rise an hour later each day and go to sleep an hour later each day.

That makes ordinary life… complicated. My sleep pattern is erratic and has been ever since I was a child. If you go and look through my post history, you’ll see uploads ranging from 9am right through to 4am in the morning. When my sleeping pattern is severely out, it needs fixing.

The easiest way to do that? Stay up all night.

My lovely fiancee is an unabashed night owl and longs for those periods of time where we are up into the wee hours so happily joins me on this horrible sleep cycle roller-coaster. Last week, it was time to fix it again so we were back in the trenches once more but, this time, we were armed. Or at least I hoped we were.

It’s 24 Hour Horror Marathon Time

Right, so let’s get some context… My sleeping pattern has already wandered and needs to be reset. It’s time to sort it out and that’s where the horror marathon comes in.

We will be watching a few horror movies, playing Resident Evil Requiem for an extended session, and then binging more horror movies to wrap things up. Hopefully I don’t get deep vein thrombosis from sitting on my arse that long. Regular stretching sessions are a must, here, and maybe a few pushups too.

We also need to avoid sugar because experiencing sugar crashes when pulling an all-nighter is not fun. Coffee poured, horror movie on, optimism high. We are going to go right through until about 10pm the next day.

A copy of the PAL PS5 deluxe edition of Resident Evil Requiem shown off by an Ada Wong Nendoroid
Resident Evil Requiem would be taking up a huge chunk of this marathon. We managed to snag the deluxe edition on release, as modelled by the lovely Ada Wong in Nendoroid form.

Now, normally, I’ll get up, slam a couple of coffees, and then hit the peppermint tea for the rest of the marathon.

I can’t hammer coffee all day, I am not really a fan of tea, and I hate sugary drinks like Monster, Red Bull, and the various other carbonated energy drinks on the market. Yeah I could have the sugar free versions but they taste like dirt. I am a tough customer.

In short, as midday rolls around, I am going to need a major boost because I will be feeling it big time.

I was flagging but slightly concerned

So it’s coming up to 12pm; the sun is out and I am feeling seriously jet lagged from watching horror movies, gaming all night, and going through that horrible day-night-day transition.

It’s also about 30 degrees with 90% humidity in the house (we live next to a river) so I am suffering. Honestly, I want nothing more than to go to bed. It’s time to give this G Fuel a try.

I won’t lie, I was a little worried. 140mg of caffeine per serving! How wired am I going to feel after this? Am I going to spend the next few hours running up and down the walls feeling jittery and anxious?

A close-up of the G Fuel Ghost Face Jump Scare energy formula tub in White Cran Strawberry flavor, featuring the classic slasher villain.

There were a few encouraging signs that I might actually avoid that, though. There’s zero sugar, a bunch of different added vitamins and amino acids, and one more addition that I believe is the magic ingredient.

G Fuel contains L-Theanine which is an amino acid found naturally in things like Green Tea. I don’t know if you guys have ever noticed, but if you drink black or green tea rather than coffee, the caffeine hit doesn’t tend to be as brutal as it is with coffee. You don’t feel as wired and that’s generally thought to be because of L-theanine.

It’s said to have calming properties and may even help soothe anxiety. It also works in tandem with caffeine to smooth out the stimulation. Studies into this constantly report more alertness, improved focus on cognitive tasks, and less jitteriness than just caffeine alone.

Let’s mix it up

So let’s get this G Fuel mixed up. Gotta be brutally honest here, I was a bit worried again. Powder mixed with water and just shaken in a cup? Is this going to be like drinking a glass of vaguely fruit-flavoured chalk? Let’s hope not because that sounds like the worst thing in the world right at that moment.

Close-up overhead view of the pale pinkish-white G Fuel Ghost Face Jump Scare energy drink powder inside the tub.

We have two to try, here, so we decide to split them. I’m going for the Stab Stimulant because I am a huge fan of Cherry while my fiancee opted for Jump Scare.

The tubs are actually really cool, I can definitely see why people collect them. The designs are highly stylised and look great on a shelf.

“It had a pleasing, if not surprisingly deep, blood-red colour. Stab Stimulant… blood red juice… I know G Fuel did that one deliberately!”

If this is anything like Kool Aid, I am going to suggest that you give the tub a really good shake to get all the powder mixed up inside, otherwise your flavour won’t taste how it is intended. That’s exactly what we did before mixing.

The scoop that comes with G Fuel is genius! It’s actually shaped specifically to be used with a bottle rather than a glass. It tapers at the top so no mess and no powder stuck around the edge of the bottle’s rim. Why don’t more companies think of this?

Mixing is about as straight forward as you can get but the process did leave me feeling a bit dubious. Add a scoop of powder to between 12-16 ounces of water depending on how strong you want the drink to taste. If I did that with protein powder, I would be swallowing chunks of it. Let’s follow the instructions for the sake of the test, though.

Sorry, can I just gush over how cool this sipper cup is for a second? It’s stainless steel, has a really high quality print of the eponymous Ghost Face from Scream, and keeps your drink cool for hours if you throw some ice in with it.

It’s a massive step up from the usual plastic shakers you get with most powder based drinks. I’ve been using it every day since and it’s holding up perfectly to repeated use and washing though I wouldn’t suggest you throw it in the dishwasher. My only criticism of it is that it is so weighty and well made that I can’t tell how much of my drink is left just by feel.

So Did it Mix Well?

So the G Fuel is mixed and we are both ready to try it. I suspiciously eyed the resulting liquid looking for lumps and was pleased to see that there weren’t any. It didn’t look chalky like an Alka Seltzer or something and it had a pleasing, if not surprisingly deep, blood-red colour. Stab Stimulant, blood red juice… I know G Fuel did that one deliberately!

Honestly, I need this to work. I am really tired by this point and the prospect of making it through at least three more horror movies is horrifying. We had planned to match the theme of the Jump Scare box and go on a Scream marathon to round this night out.

We only watched the first movie a few months ago so it was Scream 2, Scream 3, and Scream 4 with the 2022 reboot waiting in the wings if we have time and feel capable. Reviews for all of those movies are coming up in future articles.

Back to the G Fuel itself. Let’s talk about the texture first. Now, this is an improved recipe called Formula 2.0. The blurb states “A smoother, cleaner formula with upgraded ingredients for longer-lasting energy, sharper focus, and no chalky aftertaste“. Apparently G Fuel was noted as being a bit chalky in the past but that really isn’t the case, here, as you can see from the image.

My fiancee shook it for about a minute with 14 ounces of water and the resulting texture was smooth and consistent. There’s no chalkiness and it doesn’t leave an awful powdery feeling all over your teeth like most powder mix drinks do. I was seriously relieved by that as I hate that feeling. So how about the taste?

How is the Stab Stimulant Flavour?

I really didn’t know what to expect, here. As mentioned earlier, Stab Stimulant has an extremely horror apt blood red colour that looks very appealing but it did have me thinking this was going to be a very artificial flavour. You know, something you would find in sweets (candy) but that’s really not the case.

It immediately hits your tongue as a crisp apple followed almost instantly by a tart, cherry dominance that lingers a little while, before the apple comes back in for the encore.

It’s insanely good and weirdly addictive. I needed this to last me awhile because I wanted the caffeine hit to come on gradually so I had to stop myself from just necking the whole thing.

I was actually really surprised by how subtle the flavour was. I was expecting strong apple from the smell but it’s far more of a deep blend that together makes something completely unique.

It’s tart and a little sour but not to the point where your face will curl. It’s more just enough to offset the sweetness. I should point out that it really doesn’t have that horrible artificial sweetener taste, either. I’m guessing G Fuel are allowing the natural flavours to do a lot of the shouting when it comes to the sweetness.

“I needed this to last me awhile because I wanted the caffeine hit to come on gradually so I had to stop myself from just necking the whole thing.”

Most importantly, for me at least, there’s no sugary aftertaste that lingers and makes you want to reach for a toothbrush at the first available opportunity. I always find sugary drinks to be anything but refreshing but that’s not the case here. The fact that it is sugar free means it feels like it is quenching my thirst rather than just leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

And How About Jump Scare?

Jump Scare is a totally different beast to the Stab Stimulant flavour and the name feels very appropriate. It’s a much lighter and brighter red colour that, again, is very pleasing to the eye. The first sip of this is like that jolt you get when a loud bang in a horror movie scares the crap out of you.

Jump Scare flavour is described as White Cran Strawberry but that description doesn’t really do it justice. It’s like a sherbet explosion. My fiancee described it best when she said it tastes like Pixie Stix in drink form. It’s sweet, sour, and almost feels as though it is fizzing on your tongue.

A tub of Ghost Face G Fuel Jump Scare energy powder next to a glass of bright red mixed drink in a Jack Skellington Nightmare Before Christmas glass.

Again, Jump Scare mixed up perfectly with no chalkiness and the texture is smooth. The initial hit is a sherbet fizz that almost entirely fills your mouth. Behind that there’s a subtle sour cranberry before a sweet strawberry comes through to dominate the out.

If I had one complaint here it would be that the cranberry is quite subtle and a bit overpowered by the strawberry but I think that is the intention. This is, very clearly, a deliberately candy like flavour designed to wake up your taste buds as well as your mind.

Which Flavour Did I Prefer?

Honestly? It’s hard to decide because I loved both of them. My fiancee is squarely in the Jump Scare camp but I do think that your mood is going to play into things a little.

If you want something subtle to sip while reading your favourite horror novel or, in my case, writing your latest horror movie review, Stab Stimulant is the way to go. It’s not in your face, it’s quite reserved, and it is very content to not overwhelm you with sweetness with every sip.

If I was playing a high energy horror video game like Resident Evil Requiem or watching an action packed horror flick, give me Jump Scare. Every sip is like a jolt of flavour explosion that’s going to fit in perfectly with the action on screen.

Did It Help Me Complete the 24 Hour Marathon?

So back to the horror marathon. As I said, I was flagging and there was still hours and hours to go. I sipped on the G Fuel as we sat down for our first movie, Scream 2, feeling very well matched with my Ghost Face sipper cup.

Weirdly, despite the 140mg of caffeine that is roughly equivalent to two espressos, I didn’t feel wired at all. I expected to be humming because I am pretty sensitive to caffeine but that just wasn’t the case. I felt more awake, more alert, and like I could make it through the next few hours but I didn’t feel jittery or shaky. I didn’t crash before sleep, either.

I’m really not just saying this just because I was sent some product, either. Plenty of directors have asked me to review their movies and sent screeners only for me to still bag on the film. I thoroughly believe that honesty is literally all I have to offer as a reviewer. This really did feel like a completely different kind of energy boost.

The G Fuel Jump Scare Collector's Box

I’m going back to that L-theanine that I talked about earlier as being one of the key reasons, along with the sugar free nature of the drink. L-theanine has been proven to balance out the negative parts of caffeine and the lack of sugar means you won’t crash later on. That’s not to mention some of the other active ingredients like taurine which is there to help keep you focusing on what it is you are doing.

It’s actually thoroughly impressive. G Fuel isn’t giving you a basic caffeine and sugar bomb that’s going to bring you up before making you crash back down. It is aiming for sustained focus over a long period with no horrible dip afterwards.

It should also be noted that G Fuel are responsible enough to suggest that you only have one drink per day, as well. They view this as a dietary supplement that should not be abused and that’s both sensible and responsible advice with caffeine. It’s not for under 18s either.

Should You Buy G Fuel Jump Scare and Stab Stimulant?

If you are someone who needs a boost in the middle of the day, wants a jolt before they work out, has a long distance drive coming up, or just needs a little assistance to get through that horror gaming or movie marathon, you should definitely grab some G Fuel.

“Weirdly, despite the 140mg of caffeine that is roughly equivalent to two espressos, I didn’t feel wired at all.”

Jump Scare and Stab Stimulant both taste fantastic and the sipper cup is incredibly high quality. I’m using it daily, now, and it keeps my drinks cool for hours. The boost you get from the caffeine, taurine, other amino acids, and L-theanine keeps you focused and alert without the horribly jitteriness associated with most energy drinks and there’s no disgusting sugary aftertaste.

I should also point out that G Fuel is going to save you a ton of money if you are a regular energy drink consumer. Energy drinks range anywhere from $2-5 a can which is absolutely insane. A tub of G Fuel that makes 40 servings costs around $38 which works out at about 0.89 cents per drink.

Bundle and Save a Ton of Money

Buying tubs outright is not where the magic lies with G Fuel. Aside from the regular Buy-One-Get-One-Free offers they run, purchasing tubs in bundles saves you a ridiculous amount of money.

  • Buying 2 tubs together saves you 35%
  • Buying 4 tubs together saves you 40%
  • Buying 6 tubs together saves you 45%

I have 4 tubs in my cart ready to go for $91. That takes the cost of each tub down to about $22 and each serving then works out at only 0.57 cents each. If I wanted to buy energy drinks at that price, I would have to resort to the worst of the worst on offer at my local discount store. Those energy drinks would be packed with sugar, taste like crap, and have less caffeine.

As a comparison, we are in the UK and frequently buy tubs of Kool Aid. Those tubs cost £10 and make around 20 servings. To make 40 servings of Kool Aid, with no energy boost and a ridiculous 25g of sugar per serving, would cost us £20 ($27). Buying a bundle of G Fuel works out at $22 (£16.40) per tub for 40 servings and you don’t get any sugary aftertaste, no sugar crash, and it boosts energy.

It’s a no-brainer for me and I am now a full blown G Fuel convert so expect more G Fuel horror collab reviews in the future.

The Good

  • Incredible Theme & Styling: The Ghost Face collector’s box and awesome stainless steel sipper cup look fantastic on any horror shelf and keep drinks ice-cold for hours.
  • Excellent Taste & Texture: Formula 2.0 completely eliminates chalkiness. Both flavors taste amazing, leaving no lingering, sugary aftertaste.
  • Clean, Long-Lasting Focus: The addition of L-Theanine and the sugar-free recipe prevent jitters and ensure a smooth comedown with no mid-marathon crashes.
  • Fantastic Value: At under $1 per serving (and even cheaper if bundled), it is significantly more wallet-friendly than sugary canned energy drinks.

The Bad

  • Subtle Cranberry in Jump Scare: The sweet strawberry and sour sherbet kick tend to heavily dominate the white cranberry flavor.
  • Extremely Heavy Shaker: The custom stainless steel cup is built so well and has so much weight that it is tough to tell how much drink is left inside by feel.
  • Requires a Thorough Pre-Shake: Like Kool-Aid, the dry tubs need a solid shaking before scoop-out to ensure the flavors don’t settle unevenly.

The Ugly: Realizing that the tie-in movie Scream 7 was disappointingly weak, meaning this incredible collector’s box actually ended up being far better than the film it was promoting!

Should You Gear Up with G Fuel?

Absolutely. If you have a grueling horror movie marathon on the cards or a massive all-night session of Resident Evil Requiem, G Fuel is a top-tier addition to your survival pack. While some flavors can lean slightly sweet, the mix of caffeine, taurine, and L-theanine provides sustained focus and genuine alertness without the dreaded sugar-crash of canned energy drinks. Packaged in a beautiful, highly collectible box with a high-end stainless steel sipper, this is a premium setup that actually saves you cash in the long run. I’m officially a G Fuel convert.
