I’m a sucker for punishment. With that in mind, this section is dedicated to ultra low budget horror movies free on Tubi.tv. Now we all know there is a lot of great horror on Tubi. That is not what this section is about. That would be too easy. This section is purely dedicated to reviews of the movies that nobody seems to talk about.
The rules here are simple. I don’t read reviews, I don’t read suggestions, I don’t read anything about the movie. I simply check out the synopsis and watch before bringing you my unfiltered opinion. Expect a ton of bad movies and maybe even a few good ones. This feature was originally intended for June of 2023 but I will probably keep adding to it indefinitely.
Taking a spin on the Tubi roulette wheel brings us to Velvicide (2026), a micro-budget psychological horror that punches way above its weight. While it suffers from a padded runtime and laughable props like a googly-eyed villain mask, an absolutely stellar lead performance from Gea Rose Henry makes this a character study worth your time. If you like intimate indie horror, check it out.
Spinning the Tubi original roulette wheel usually lands you on trash, but Hive (2026) manages to be something far more frustrating: aggressively average. It looks slick and features a great lead performance, but the interesting class-exploitation commentary is quickly ditched for generic, recycled “scary kids staring menacingly” tropes. It’s free to stream, but don’t bother pushing it to the top of your watchlist.
You can find independent British thriller Lure (2026) for free on Tubi right now, but you might want to consider scrolling past. While director Oliver Cox avoids the amateur technical pitfalls that usually plague low-budget projects, he commits the ultimate horror sin by delivering an incredibly dull, poorly explained movie. Heavily copying mechanics from Saw and Would You Rather, this single-room torture feature recycling its own ideas very quickly.
119.MP4 is an ultra-DIY, experimental found footage film that feels more like underground performative art than a traditional horror movie. Is this bizarre, convention-defying Tubi find actually worth your time?
Dropbear is an objectively terrible movie that manages to be an absolute riot for the right audience. It’s a z-grade creature feature that leans heavily into its absurd premise, offering farcical kills and special effects that are, frankly, completely pants. While the joke wears a bit thin by the final act, if you fancy watching killer koalas rip out throats while the cast plays it straight, this “so bad it’s good” gem is perfect for a beer-and-pizza night.
Evidence of the Boogeyman (2025) is a textbook example of found footage padding. While it features a gnarly 80s-style monster and a charismatic lead in Naomi Mechem-Miller, the 94-minute runtime is filled with repetitive “nontent” and a plot that feels like it’s running on a default setting. It’s free on Tubi, but is it worth your time? Let’s find out.
