10 Great Comedy Horror Movies from the 2020s Ranked - The Funniest Recent Horror Movies
Welcome to Knockout Horror. Today we are going to be looking at, and ranking, 10 Great Comedy Horror Movies from the 2020s. Now when I am talking about comedy horror movies, I don’t mean horror with a certain level of subtle humour. That is a list for a future date. I am talking about horror movies that are fully committed to their comedy side and aim to make you laugh throughout.
Luckily, the 2020s have been a great period for this type of horror. Better than any previous period I can remember, in fact. Leaving us with plenty of titles to check out. In fact, there will be another list following on from this one releasing shortly.
I have watched all of these movies but haven’t reviewed them all. Where I have, I will give my score and you can click the link to check out my thoughts. Remember, this ranking is my own personal opinion and yours may differ. Let’s take a look.
10. Sissy (2022)
I talk about this movie a ton on this site. Sissy is criminally underrated and a hell of a lot of fun. Following a social media influencer called Cecilia who ends up spending a weekend bridesmaid’s getaway with her high school best friend. Only for things to turn ultra violent after an an unexpected encounter with a girl who bullied her. Sissy is a laugh riot from start to finish.

Approaching the slasher horror genre from a slightly different angle. Sissy is committed to making the viewer laugh while, also, providing some brutal kills and subverting expectation. Awesome stuff from Down Under and well worth checking out. I awarded Sissy 3.7/5 in my review.
9. Totally Killer (2024)
Totally Killer is a slasher comedy that takes us back to the 80s in more ways than one. After laying dormant for 35 years, the “sweet sixteen” killer reappears to claim another victim. After accidentally travelling back to 1987, teenager, Jamie (Kiernan Shipka), realises that she has an opportunity to stop the killer before he ever gets a chance to start.

The extremely lacklustre Time Cut tries to do what Totally Killer does but fails spectacularly. Apparently it’s not actually that easy to make a time travelling slasher movie that’s both fun and entertaining. Totally Killer nails both the horror and the comedy aspect brilliantly. Managing to work as both an effective slasher and a legitimately funny movie with a likable cast. Definitely a worthy entry into this list of great comedy horror.
8. The Menu (2022)
The plot of The Menu is pretty damn simple. A couple travel to a remote island to eat at an extremely exclusive, high end, restaurant. When they arrive, it turns out that the chef has prepared them an exquisite menu that may just feature more than a few surprises. Horror regulars Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult star in this movie and Ralph Fiennes is on stellar form as the restaurant’s chef.

There’s a message buried somewhere in Mark Mylod’s The Menu. The social commentary plays centre stage but we are here for the black comedy and there is plenty of that, here. You could argue that the movie doesn’t stick the landing but the journey there is a lot of fun. The horror takes a back seat and the humour is fairly subtle but, for something different, The Menu is serving up plenty to enjoy.
7. Heart Eyes (2025)
Heart Eyes follows the story of two co-workers who are forced to spend Valentine’s day evening working together to complete a project. The inconvenience will be the least of their problems, however. As the notorious Heart Eyes killer is on the loose and they are the next targets. Forcing the pair into a fight for their lives.

Heart Eyes accomplishes that rarest of achievements in managing to be a romantic comedy horror movie that actually works. The slasher elements are great, the characters are likable and have a ton of chemistry, and the movie is funny throughout. This was a huge surprise to me and I was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I am not a fan of rom-coms but Heart Eyes does more than enough to feel completely different. Awesome stuff and well worth checking out. We awarded Heart Eyes 3.5/5 in our review.
6. The Monkey (2025)
The Monkey comes by way of Longlegs director Oz Perkins and is based on a 1980 short story by horror genius Stephen King. It follows the story of two young twins who find a drumming monkey toy in the attic. After the boys realise that the monkey seems to be connected to a number of horrific deaths. They realise they need to get rid of it. The only question is how?

Stephen King adaptations often tend to feature a degree of humour. Oz Perkins, however, with The Monkey, goes completely rogue. This movie is full on chaos with a strong focus on laughs and some of the most ridiculous kills you will ever see. Bodies are decapitated, mushed up, exploded and eviscerated in some very surprising ways. It won’t be for everyone but it is a ton of fun. We awarded The Monkey 3.5/5 in our review.
5. Bodies, Bodies, Bodies (2022)
Bodies, Bodies, Bodies sees a group of friends spending the weekend together while their city is under a hurricane warning. After a night of boozing and fun. The power goes out and people start to die. The only question is, who is responsible for the killings? This film is a mix of comedy, slasher, and whodunnit that is legitimately hilarious and a ton of fun.

But boy do some people ever miss the point when it comes to Bodies, Bodies, Bodies? The Gen Z lingo, the dry humour, the silliness, the unlikable cast. This movie seems to divide people right down the middle. The truth is, however, this is a genuinely great film with a ton of laughs and a bitingly satirical take on the shallow, vapid, nature of today’s youth. I really enjoyed Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and awarded it 3.8/4 in my review.
4. Deadstream (2022)
Deadstream is an absolutely fantastic movie that is both hilarious and brilliantly reminiscent of horror movies that we just don’t see all that much any more. Social media influencer Shawn Ruddy (Joseph Winter) is desperate to regain his popularity after a recent controversy. He’d do anything and so he comes up with the idea of livestreaming himself as he spends a night in a haunted house. A decision he will soon come to regret.

Deadstream feels like The Evil Dead for the modern age. Brought bang up to date through the livestreaming format and featuring a completely unlikable, but legitimately funny, protagonist. This is a movie that doesn’t stop once it gets going. The old fashioned style scares and practical effects are a breath of fresh air. Making this one of the more underrated comedy horror films of the last few years. We awarded Deadstream 4/5 in our review.
3. Companion (2025)
Into the top three now and we are checking out, not only, three of the best comedy horror movies of the last few years. But three of my favourite horror movies of the last few years period. Sure, you could make the argument that Companion is more of a thriller but that’s swings and roundabouts. There’s some great horror moments and enough kills to keep this movie entertaining for horror fans.

Following the story of a young woman who, after spending the weekend at a friend’s remote mansion with her boyfriend. Finds herself in a horrifying predicament after an aggressive encounter with a man. You can’t say too much about this film without spoiling it but one thing you can say is that Companion might not be what you initially expect. Despite that, it is witty, incredibly well acted, a ton of fun, and engaging from start to finish. We awarded Companion 4/5 in our review.
2. The Coffee Table (2022)
Couple Jesus and Maria have been suffering from relationship problems for some time. They have, however, finally managed to conceive and have a baby after years of trying. Despite their arguments, the two are happy to be parents. The last thing the pair need is the hideous coffee table that Jesus has brought into the house. Even worse, they have absolutely no idea of just what kind of trouble it will bring them in the very near future.
Originally releasing in 2022 but not seeing a wider distribution until 2024. The Coffee Table is dark comedy horror at its absolute best. Morbid, devastating, sadistic and fiendishly funny. It is unlike anything I have watched before and very difficult to draw comparison to.

The entire events of the movie take place over one day. Placing the viewer as a fly on the wall to an unimaginably horrific situation. This was one of my favourite films last year. It’s not going to be for everyone. It’s dark beyond belief and some people find it genuinely disturbing. With that being said, however, it is a brilliant film. We awarded The Coffee Table 4/5 in our review.
1. The Substance (2024)
The Substance follows washed up actor Elisabeth (Demi Moore) as she navigates the realities of faded fame. Passed over for jobs and fired from her show. Elisabeth is intrigued when offered a chance to try a substance that will create a younger, better, copy of herself for a week at a time. The rules are simple but following them is difficult. Resulting in unimaginable horror that Elisabeth could never have seen coming.

The Substance isn’t just the best movie on this list. It’s the best horror movie in ages. It’s also utterly hilarious. Coralie Fargeat’s sexed up, toe curling, often side splittingly funny, body horror is an absolute riot from start to finish. This movie came out of nowhere and reminded everyone of just how great Demi Moore can be. The Substance has been voted for Best Picture at the Oscars so that should give you a hint of how well regarded it is. A rare feat for a horror movie. We awarded The Substance 4.5/5 in our review.
