31 Hilarious Horror Comedies
There’s something extremely special about a movie that can make you jump out of your seat one minute and laugh your ass off the next. It takes an immense amount of talent to make a comedy horror movie that hits just right. Lean too much into the horror and you lose the laughs, focus too much on the comedy and it’s not scary. It’s a delicate balancing act.
Today, I’ve gone through some of my favourite funny scary movies to curate a list featuring 31 of the greatest horror comedies of all time. This list ranges from the absolute classics, right down to some less well known options that might have passed you by. We aren’t going to get too obscure here, though. The idea behind this list is that you should be able to jump on a range of different streaming services and find all of these films without too much trouble. Without further ado, let’s take a look.

| 8 | An American Werewolf in London (1981) | UK | Landmark effects paired with pitch-black humor. |
31. Black Sheep (2006) – Woolly Bully
- ⭐ IMDb Score: 5.8/10
- 🎬 Director: Jonathan King
- 🐑 Comedy Style: Ridiculous Creature Feature
The Knockout Verdict: A woolly bloodbath that takes its silliness with a straight face.
I remember this movie getting a lot of attention back on release but it seems to have faded a bit. That’s a shame because it’s a gory and utterly ridiculous film that’s a total blast. My favourite parts are when it suddenly takes itself extremely seriously to double down on the silliness.
Why It’s Here: It’s a New Zealand gem that proves any animal can be terrifying (and hilarious) if you give it an appetite for human flesh.
The Synopsis
Let’s kick things off with a New Zealand comedy horror gem where a genetic experiment goes wrong, resulting in a flock of bloodthirsty, carnivorous sheep.

The Knockout Verdict: A bizarre and occasionally gross-out movie that thinks it’s cooler than it is.
I’m not going to lie, I don’t like this movie a whole lot but that won’t stop me slapping it on a list. It is, after all, a comedy horror and you could probably do a whole lot worse. It is occasionally funny, though, and good for watching with some popcorn. Check out our full review of Ick right here.
Why It’s Here: It’s here because even when a movie misses the mark slightly, it still offers enough bizarre science-fiction fun to be worth a watch.

29. Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) – Cotton Candy Cocoons
- ⭐ IMDb Score: 6.2/10
- 🎬 Directors: Stephen Chiodo
- 🤡 Comedy Style: 80s B-Movie Slapstick
The Knockout Verdict: A gloriously goofy B-movie with creative monster designs.
The title says it all, right? If you are looking for some outrageous 80’s horror laughs then look no further. This movie looked old even in the 80s which, ironically, has made it hold up very well. Tons of fun.
Why It’s Here: It’s here for the sheer absurdity of its premise and the iconic, ridiculous practical effects that remain legendary to this day.

The social satire is as vicious as the deaths but it seems to go right over some people’s heads. It’s poking fun at Gen Z, it’s supposed to be ironic. I absolutely love it. Check out our review right here.
Why It’s Here: It earns its spot for having an excellent twist that I actually didn’t see coming and its commitment to poking fun at Gen Z.

The unique approach to an otherwise formulaic horror topic sets up a bunch of laughs. To be perfectly honest, this feels like the type of horror movie that only Ireland could make.

It’s all done with tongue placed firmly in cheek. I’m not going to lie, my fiancee didn’t enjoy this one but I thought it was a riot. While it may be a little divisive, I think it’s simply a lot of fun for people who know the “rules” of the horror genre.
