Happy Birthday (2023) Review – A Technically Incompetent Slasher Fumble
Chris Helton delivers a masterclass in poor filmmaking with Happy Birthday. From looping green screens to audible director cues, is this the year’s worst slasher?
I’m a sucker for punishment. With that in mind, this section is dedicated to ultra low budget horror movies free on Tubi.tv. Now we all know there is a lot of great horror on Tubi. That is not what this section is about. That would be too easy. This section is purely dedicated to reviews of the movies that nobody seems to talk about.
The rules here are simple. I don’t read reviews, I don’t read suggestions, I don’t read anything about the movie. I simply check out the synopsis and watch before bringing you my unfiltered opinion. Expect a ton of bad movies and maybe even a few good ones. This feature was originally intended for June of 2023 but I will probably keep adding to it indefinitely.

Anthony C. Ferrante returns to the shark genre with Blind Waters. Does this Tubi/Asylum collaboration offer any bite, or is it just more low-budget driftwood?

Todd Bogin delivers a realistic look at narcissistic abuse with Hidden Exposure. Liana Liberato shines in this relationship thriller, but is it actually horror?

Delaney Mundy delivers a nauseating found footage experience with Terror Eyes. A road trip to Joshua Tree turns into a “dark web” nightmare that fails on every level.

Tim Cruz blends The Bachelor with Scream in the Tubi Original The Final Rose. Does this satirical slasher deliver the gore or just a bunch of reality TV bickering?

Taylor Chien takes a beautiful Hawaiian backdrop and fills it with horror clichés in The Resort. Does this urban exploration horror offer chills or just bad acting?

Michael Madsen and Robert Davi star in a loosely Lovecraftian Tubi Original. The Lurking Fear (2023) is a jumbled, incoherent mess of an asylum horror.

Brett Bentman delivers a shark movie with barely any sharks. Bull Shark is a slow-burn drama about alcoholism that forgets it is supposed to be a horror.

John Riggins delivers an environmentalist nightmare with Shark Huntress. An activist seeks revenge on a shark while fighting “big plastic” in this bottom-of-the-barrel horror.

Jadon Cal delivers a predictably toothless shark thriller with Shark Waters. Despite a strong lead performance, the film is sunk by laughable CGI and a farcical script.

James Nunn delivers a formulaic shark thriller with Shark Bait. Despite a strong lead performance from Holly Earl, the film is sunk by unlikable characters and a generic script.

Spider One delivers a bachelorette party from hell in Bury the Bride. Does this desert-set revenge thriller subvert tropes or just succumb to poor editing?
